Keboola’s Storage UI now comes with a new - slicker - look which will improve the user experience for all Keboola veterans.

How has the Storage UI changed?

The Storage UI offers a simple user interface for managing data across your ETL/ELT processes. It can be used to save data after being extracted or look into the results of your transformations (the “two-stage” bucket model). It is an integral part of the project backend, which supports all other aspects of Keboola operations.

So what is new?

1. Clearer overall organization

The new hierarchical organization (from buckets to tables to columns) more clearly reflects the data hierarchies in the background.

The cleaned-up first view showcases only buckets, though a user can still search all buckets, tables, and columns via the search window.

The clearer design simplifies finding the data you need without being bogged down by information overload.

The redesign will be welcomed by new users and power-users alike, the latter having to dig through multiple data assets to find their target bucket or table.

Using storage context button user can easily explore the buckes & tablets structure

2. Bulk operations

The new Storage UI allows bulk operations across buckets, tables, and columns. Simply select all the buckets, tables, or columns and perform operations over multiple assets simultaneously to save yourself time.

3. Improved filtering of data samples

Data samples allow you to quickly gaze at the information in a table of your choice.

Previously, you could only filter by a single column. With the new Storage UI, you can use multiple filters - one for each column - to more granularly inspect data within Storage.

The new filter is also more powerful. Before you could only specify exact matches, now the filtering allows you to perform a variety of logical comparisons:

4. Improved schema changes

In the previous Storage UI, you had to vertically scroll to access the powerful schema manipulation features, such as setting the primary key over a table, adding metadata descriptions to columns, or altering the data type of a column.

With the new redesign, all the features are accessible from the Schema tab, which makes working with schemas easier and more transparent.

What features haven’t changed?

Many powerful features are kept untouched under the new Storage UI launch:

  1. Track and monitor all data touchpoints and changes with Events logs and Jobs logs.
  2. Evaluate the freshness of data with “Last import” and “Last change” timestamps.
  3. Fully describe metadata with customizable descriptions of buckets, tables, and columns to signal important aspects of your data not covered elsewhere.
  4. Snapshot tables to keep historical records and recover data if lost or overwritten.
  5. Alias table names to improve intuition and querying.
